[ HI, I’M TIBBEY ]

I am a visual storyteller based in Utrecht with a focus on film. Whether working with analog or digital formats, I strive to tell compelling stories. My work is characterized by its distinctive use of sound, while the visual form remains abstract and experimental.

Currently, I am a student at HKU, studying Image & Media Technology. This program teaches me to be a storyteller who can integrate various techniques and disciplines, ranging from design and video to animation.

I enjoy a structured and organized workflow.
Additionally, I have a background in applied psychology, and I try to incorporate this knowledge into my art. I find human-related topics particularly interesting to explore in my work.

PARADOXAL (FR), PARADOXAAL (NL); IN STRIJD MET DE VERWACHTING

During the summer vacation of 2024, I spent three weeks alone in a maison in France. During this time, I minimized my phone usage, allowing myself to fully unwind. This experience deeply inspired me, drawing creativity from the surroundings where I stayed.

I carefully developed the concept and later filmed it together with a friend who came to visit. Paradoxale was shot using a digital camera from 2010.

An experimental film in collaboration with Jeen Fabriek. A film set in a surreal environment, open to interpretation

KIJKEN IS BEKEKEN WORDEN

A short film that originated from using a specific quote as a starting point. “Kijken is bekeken worden”  is a quote  by writer and poet Gerrit Komrij.

ATTENDRE (FR), WACHTEN OP (NL)

The short film fragments of Attendre originated from having little time, quickly coming up with a concept, and making use of the environment you are in at that moment. Time played a crucial role in this project, which ultimately became the central theme of the video.

AWARE IN THE CITY

But ever since I moved back to Utrecht, that village-like feeling has quietly returned. It’s as if the city is always watching, silently. You’re never truly alone here, but rarely fully seen either.

That paradox; beTo me, Utrecht feels like a village disguised as a city. I grew up in a small town, where everyone knows and watches each other. That constant sense of being observed never quite left me. In larger cities, I find anonymity, the freedom to disappear into the crowd. That gives me room to breathe.

But ever since I moved back to Utrecht, that village-like feeling has quietly returned. It’s as if the city is always watching, silently. You’re never truly alone here, but rarely fully seen either.

That paradox; being watched, yet remaining anonymous, is at the heart of my project Aware in the City.

ITWDW

With a team of five, we created a music video If the world doesn’t wait (ITWDW) for Jeroen Houben. We remixed the song and chose a drill theme as the foundation.
In this music video, we showcase two completely different generations coming together through music. It highlights how the older generation can still find a sense of connection and recognition with the younger generation.
